Everyone’s connection to nature is different, and that’s the beauty of it. No rights, no wrongs. It’s not about being a nature expert, hiking guru or even a bird watcher. Nature can be anything - a feeling, a system, a mindset. Let’s change how we think and talk about it.

New Nature is an open invitation to a different way of thinking. We’re taught in school that nature is the opposite of culture - something totally separate from us. But in reality, everything is nature, including us.

New Nature is the possibility for a better relationship between us and the rest of the natural world. It’s a return to balance, exercising imagination and empathy to find new ways that we can live.

New Nature is the key to unlocking everyone’s connection to nature. Nature is where creativity comes to life, it helps us to think differently, problem solve and be inspired with no bounds.

We’re already connected to it, even if we don’t realise it. Yet in the outdoor space, the same people at the ‘top’ are having the same conversations.

And it’s not working. For society to progress, we need a change of perspective that reaches everyone. That’s New Nature.

New Nature is an open-source concept by Ollie Olanipekun, built on learnings from on-the-ground work. It is the foundation for his new project OpenAREA: an exploration of our shared space, using art and creativity to reframe how we see nature.
